Chartres
Gary, Nancy, Wes, and Ginger took the one hour train ride from Gare Montparnasse to Chartres.  You can see the Cathedral from the train station but it is a short walk.   We had an early lunch across from the south portal at an outside bistro.   Then off to explore.  Chartres is a capitivating little city  great for exploring.  If a person likes gothic cathedrals, Chartres is one of the best preserved and most beautiful.
The stained glass is breathtaking when the sun light shines through.  Some of the recently cleaned windows are especially beautiful.
Each piece of statuary on the outside is a work of art. It is estimated that 2,000 figures decorate the cathedral.
