| The Duomo has a striking front with magnificent mosaics. Inside is Luca Signorelli's masterpiece fresco of the apocalypse. Sorry about the picture but photos are not allowed in the chapel with the frescos. I had to take this one from outside the chapel with zoom. The basic structure is the striped masonry of Tuscan and Umbrian Churches. |
| Orvieto is a tiny hill town in Umbria that has a beautiful duomo and narrow streets made for strolling and browsing. We had lunch in a bella outdoor cafe with olive spread sandwiches and Orvieto Classico. Many of the shops have brightly colored pottery unique to this area. One shop had replicas of Etruscan ceramics. We could have stayed here overnight, or longer. Amazingly, we did not try the gelato. |
