Cinque Terre
The Cinque Terre can be a mountain trail, a pirate cove, wine sipped on a sun-drenched piazza, a cool swim in a turquoise ocean, pesto and pasta, tagliolini sul pesce, local wine, conversation with friends after a hike, small fishing villages that cling to cliffs overhanging the sea, boat rides, a walk through a vineyard, lemon trees, or all of the above. The Cinque Terre fills up your senses.
Gary and Nancy, Ginger and Wes, and two of our new friends, Gary and Helen, took the local train from our hotel in Montorosso to Riomaggiore. After exploring the town some, we took the short walk to Manarola on the Via Dell Amore. We bought some focaccia with tomatoes and olives and walked to a picnic area on the trail toward Corniglia for lunch. Then we walked on to Corniglia. The views were spectacular at every turn on this sunny clear day. Bravissimo.
Our hearty crew took the train to Vernazza to spend the afternoon.
