Florence
The Duomo and red roof tops of Florence stand below us in this view from Piazzale Michelangelo.  We wish Florence was closer to Oklahoma.
Eat with the locals at I  Fratellini. No tables or chairs, stand and put your wine in the rack on the wall.
This is a copy of Michelangelo's David in front of the Palazzo Vecchio on the Piazza Signoria where the original was intended to be displayed.  We saw the breathtaking original at the Accademia.
The Uffizi Gallery was marvelous and our local guide was very knowledgeable.  This was definitely one of the highlights of the trip that we could repeat year after year.  Botticelli's Venus and Primavera were two of our favorites.
The Dominican Church of Santa Maria Novella is loaded with great art but Masaccio's Holy Trinity is one of the most awesome pieces.
The art, food, wine, architecture, colorful markets, gelato, and vibrant street life of Florence almost cause sensory overload, in a good way.  We had an excellent group meal at the Ristorante Giglio Rosso.  The desserts were delizioso.  We tried gelato at Gelateria Carrozze and Vivoli's.  Our group gelato sleuth was Thomas who could always find a gelato shop.
The Vasarian Corridor used by the Medici to go from the Uffizi to the Pitti Palace goes across the Ponte Vecchio.  Picture taken from inside the Uffizi.
