Dachau and Bavaria
It was chilling to walk into Dachau through the iron gate with the motto Arbeit Macht Frei  "Work will make you free" and think about the thousands of people that walked through this gate during the period 1933-1945 and never came out.  What were they thinking as they saw this gate?  The sheer size of the grounds in this camp gives one the impression that this was a dreadful place.  Some of the sculptures and memorials like the "Never Again" memorial help to remind us of the gravity of the events that occurred here but the grounds and buildings were curiously neat and sanitized.  Our visit in 2006 was less disturbing than our first visit in 2000 and that is a little unsettling.  We were glad we came lest we forget.
After Dachau we went to the Andechs Monastery for lunch.  A super Bavarian beer garden with great food and the "Best beer in Germany".
We just looked at the pigs' knuckles. We didn't eat them.
The villages had Maypoles in the Bavarian colors of blue and white.
On the way to Reutte, we stopped at the rococo Wieskirche.
